50 Bài Mẫu Speaking Chủ Đề Learning English & Foreign Languages A2-C2

Question 1: Why are you learning English?

Ý tưởng: Nêu mục đích chính, lợi ích trong đời sống và mục tiêu lâu dài.

Well, I’m learning English because it gives me access to more information and allows me to communicate with people from different countries. I also want to understand films, videos and books without depending too much on translation. In the long run, I hope English will create better opportunities for both my studies and my career.

[informal] [daily conversation] [level A2-B1]

Note:

have access to something: có cơ hội tiếp cận điều gì

depend on translation: phụ thuộc vào bản dịch

in the long run: về lâu dài

create better opportunities: tạo ra những cơ hội tốt hơn

Question 2: How long have you been learning English?

Ý tưởng: Nêu khoảng thời gian đã học, giai đoạn bắt đầu và sự thay đổi trong cách học.

Actually, I’ve been learning English for several years. I first studied it at school, where I mainly focused on grammar and vocabulary exercises. More recently, I have spent more time practising listening and speaking because I want to use English naturally in real conversations, not just get correct answers in written tests.

[informal] [daily conversation] [level A2-B1]

Note:

learn English for several years: học tiếng Anh trong nhiều năm

focus on grammar: tập trung vào ngữ pháp

use English naturally: sử dụng tiếng Anh một cách tự nhiên

a written test: bài kiểm tra viết

Ngữ pháp: have/has been + V-ing + for/since diễn tả một hoạt động bắt đầu trong quá khứ và vẫn tiếp tục ở hiện tại.

Question 3: How often do you study English?

Ý tưởng: Nêu tần suất học, thời lượng thông thường và cách duy trì vào ngày bận.

To be honest, I try to study English every day, even if I only have twenty or thirty minutes. On weekdays, I usually review vocabulary or listen to a short podcast after dinner. At weekends, I have more time, so I can practise speaking, write a short paragraph and go over anything I found difficult during the week.

[informal] [daily conversation] [level A2-B1]

Note:

study every day: học hằng ngày

review vocabulary: ôn lại từ vựng

go over something: xem lại hoặc ôn lại điều gì

during the week: trong suốt tuần

Question 4: Where and when do you usually study English?

Ý tưởng: Nêu địa điểm, thời gian học và lý do lựa chọn khung giờ đó.

In my case, I usually study English at home in the evening, when the house is quiet and I can concentrate properly. I sit at my desk, put on my headphones and keep my phone away unless I need it for a lesson. This time works well for me because I have already finished most of my daily tasks.

[informal] [daily conversation] [level A2-B1]

Note:

concentrate properly: tập trung một cách hiệu quả

put on my headphones: đeo tai nghe

keep my phone away: để điện thoại ra xa

daily tasks: những công việc hằng ngày

Question 5: What does a typical English study session look like for you?

Ý tưởng: Trình bày một buổi học theo thứ tự mở đầu, phần luyện tập chính và phần kết thúc.

Normally, I begin by reviewing a few words from my previous lesson so that I do not forget them. Then I work on one main skill, such as listening to a short clip and repeating useful sentences aloud. I usually finish by writing or saying a brief summary, which helps me check whether I have really understood the material.

[informal] [daily conversation] [level A2-B1]

Note:

begin by doing something: bắt đầu bằng việc làm gì

repeat a sentence aloud: lặp lại một câu thành tiếng

a brief summary: một bản tóm tắt ngắn

understand the material: hiểu tài liệu học

Question 6: Do you enjoy learning English?

Ý tưởng: Trả lời trực tiếp, nêu điều khiến mình hứng thú và thừa nhận một khó khăn.

Of course, I do. I enjoy the feeling of understanding something that used to seem impossible, such as a fast conversation or a joke in a film. Learning English can sometimes be tiring, especially when progress feels slow, but it is still rewarding because every small improvement shows me that my effort is paying off.

[informal] [daily conversation] [level A2-B1]

Note:

used to seem impossible: đã từng có vẻ không thể thực hiện

progress feels slow: cảm thấy tiến bộ chậm

a small improvement: một tiến bộ nhỏ

my effort is paying off: nỗ lực của tôi đang mang lại kết quả

Question 7: Which English skill do you enjoy practising the most?

Ý tưởng: Chọn một kỹ năng, nêu hoạt động yêu thích và giải thích cảm giác khi tiến bộ.

Personally, I enjoy practising listening the most because it lets me learn from songs, podcasts, interviews and films. I like noticing expressions that people actually use in everyday speech. It is especially satisfying when I can follow a whole conversation without looking at subtitles, because that gives me clear proof that my listening ability is improving.

[informal] [daily conversation] [level A2-B1]

Note:

everyday speech: lời nói trong giao tiếp hằng ngày

follow a conversation: theo kịp và hiểu một cuộc trò chuyện

look at subtitles: nhìn phụ đề

clear proof of progress: bằng chứng rõ ràng về sự tiến bộ

Question 8: Which English skill is the most difficult for you?

Ý tưởng: Nêu kỹ năng khó nhất, nguyên nhân cụ thể và cách đang khắc phục.

To be honest, listening is the most difficult skill for me, particularly when people speak quickly and link their words together. I may know all the words separately but still fail to recognise them in natural speech. To improve, I use short clips, slow them down when necessary and practise one sentence several times before moving on.

[informal] [daily conversation] [level A2-B1]

Note:

link words together: nối các từ với nhau khi nói

natural speech: lời nói tự nhiên

slow a clip down: giảm tốc độ một đoạn video hoặc âm thanh

before moving on: trước khi chuyển sang phần tiếp theo

Question 9: How do you learn new vocabulary?

Ý tưởng: Nêu cách chọn từ, ghi lại theo cụm và thực hành trong ngữ cảnh cá nhân.

Usually, I do not try to learn every new word I see. I choose words and phrases that are common or useful for topics I often talk about. Instead of writing only a translation, I save the whole phrase, an example sentence and sometimes the pronunciation. Then I make a personal example so that the vocabulary becomes more meaningful to me.

[informal] [daily conversation] [level A2-B1]

Note:

a useful phrase: một cụm từ hữu ích

save the whole phrase: lưu lại toàn bộ cụm từ

an example sentence: một câu ví dụ

a personal example: một ví dụ liên quan đến bản thân

Question 10: How do you remember new words for a long time?

Ý tưởng: Nêu cách ôn ngắt quãng, chủ động nhớ lại và sử dụng từ trong nhiều tình huống.

Well, I review new words several times over a period of days instead of trying to memorise everything at once. I also test myself before looking at the answer, because actively recalling a word helps me remember it better. Most importantly, I use new vocabulary in messages, short recordings and conversations so that it becomes part of my active language.

[informal] [daily conversation] [level A2-B1]

Note:

over a period of days: trong khoảng thời gian nhiều ngày

memorise everything at once: học thuộc mọi thứ cùng một lúc

actively recall a word: chủ động nhớ lại một từ

active language: vốn ngôn ngữ có thể chủ động sử dụng

Ngữ pháp: instead of + V-ing diễn tả việc chọn làm một việc thay vì một việc khác.

Question 11: How do you use a dictionary when learning English?

Ý tưởng: Nêu loại từ điển, thông tin cần kiểm tra và cách tránh phụ thuộc vào nghĩa tiếng Việt.

Actually, I prefer using a learner’s dictionary because the definitions and examples are easier to understand. I normally check the pronunciation, word class, common meanings and useful combinations with other words. I do not stop after reading the Vietnamese meaning; I look at several examples to see how the word behaves in a real sentence.

[informal] [daily conversation] [level A2-B1]

Note:

a learner’s dictionary: từ điển dành cho người học

check the pronunciation: kiểm tra cách phát âm

word class: từ loại

behave in a sentence: được sử dụng như thế nào trong câu

Question 12: How do you study English grammar?

Ý tưởng: Nêu cách học qua ví dụ, nhận diện mẫu cấu trúc và tự tạo câu thay vì chỉ học quy tắc.

For me, grammar is easier to remember when I learn it through examples rather than isolated rules. I read or listen to several sentences, notice the pattern and work out what it means. After that, I create examples about my own life and use the structure in a short answer, which makes the grammar feel practical instead of abstract.

[informal] [daily conversation] [level A2-B1]

Note:

an isolated rule: một quy tắc tách rời khỏi ngữ cảnh

notice a pattern: nhận ra một mẫu cấu trúc

work out the meaning: tự tìm ra ý nghĩa

feel practical: mang tính ứng dụng thực tế

Question 13: How do you practise English listening?

Ý tưởng: Nêu nguồn nghe, quy trình nghe nhiều lượt và cách kiểm tra phần chưa nghe được.

Normally, I choose a short piece of audio that is slightly above my level. I listen once for the main idea, then listen again for specific details. If I miss something, I check the English transcript, mark the difficult section and replay it several times. Finally, I listen without the transcript to see whether my understanding has improved.

[informal] [daily conversation] [level A2-B1]

Note:

slightly above my level: cao hơn trình độ của tôi một chút

listen for the main idea: nghe để nắm ý chính

listen for specific details: nghe để tìm chi tiết cụ thể

replay a section: phát lại một đoạn

Question 14: How do you practise speaking when you are alone?

Ý tưởng: Nêu các hoạt động tự luyện và cách nghe lại để cải thiện lần nói tiếp theo.

Well, when I am alone, I often talk to myself in English about what I am doing or what happened during the day. I also choose a familiar question, give a one-minute answer and record my voice. After listening to the recording, I note any long pauses or unclear sentences and try the same answer again more smoothly.

[informal] [daily conversation] [level A2-B1]

Note:

talk to myself: tự nói chuyện một mình

give a one-minute answer: trả lời trong một phút

record my voice: ghi âm giọng nói của mình

a long pause: một khoảng ngập ngừng dài

Question 15: What do you do to improve your pronunciation?

Ý tưởng: Nêu cách nghe mẫu, bắt chước theo cụm và so sánh bản ghi âm.

Well, I focus on a short recording rather than trying to copy a long video at once. I listen carefully to the speaker’s sounds, stress, rhythm and intonation, then repeat one phrase at a time. I record myself and compare the two versions. This helps me identify exactly which sounds or parts of the sentence need more practice.

[informal] [daily conversation] [level B1]

Note:

focus on a short recording: tập trung vào một đoạn ghi âm ngắn

one phrase at a time: lần lượt từng cụm một

compare two versions: so sánh hai phiên bản

need more practice: cần luyện tập thêm

Question 16: How do you improve your English reading?

Ý tưởng: Nêu cách chọn tài liệu, đọc lấy ý chính và xử lý từ mới mà không làm gián đoạn việc đọc.

Personally, I read short articles, stories and posts about topics I already find interesting. I first read quickly to understand the main message without stopping for every unknown word. Then I go back, examine the important details and look up only the words that block my understanding or appear several times. This keeps reading useful and enjoyable.

[informal] [daily conversation] [level B1]

Note:

read for the main message: đọc để nắm thông điệp chính

an unknown word: một từ chưa biết

block my understanding: cản trở việc hiểu nội dung

appear several times: xuất hiện nhiều lần

Question 17: How do you improve your English writing?

Ý tưởng: Nêu loại bài viết ngắn, cách dùng mẫu tham khảo và quy trình sửa một số lỗi quan trọng.

Personally, to improve my writing, I write short pieces regularly instead of waiting until I have time for a long essay. I may describe my day, summarise a video or give my opinion on a simple topic. Afterwards, I compare my writing with a good model, correct a few important mistakes and rewrite the sentences that sound unclear or repetitive.

[informal] [daily conversation] [level B1]

Note:

write short pieces regularly: thường xuyên viết các đoạn ngắn

summarise a video: tóm tắt một video

compare my writing with a model: so sánh bài viết với bài mẫu

rewrite a sentence: viết lại một câu

Question 18: Do you use any apps or websites to learn English?

Ý tưởng: Nêu công cụ thường dùng, công dụng cụ thể và cách tránh dùng quá nhiều ứng dụng.

Yes, definitely. I use an online dictionary, a vocabulary-review app and several channels that provide short listening lessons. These tools are convenient because I can study almost anywhere and keep track of what I have completed. However, I try not to use too many apps, because switching between them can waste time that should be spent actually using English.

[informal] [daily conversation] [level B1]

Note:

a vocabulary-review app: ứng dụng ôn từ vựng

keep track of something: theo dõi điều gì

switch between apps: chuyển đổi liên tục giữa các ứng dụng

waste time doing something: lãng phí thời gian làm việc gì

Question 19: Do you prefer studying alone or with other people?

Ý tưởng: Đưa ra lựa chọn, nêu ưu điểm và giải thích khi nào hình thức còn lại hữu ích.

Generally, I prefer studying alone because I can work at my own pace and spend more time on my personal weaknesses. I can pause, repeat or change an activity whenever I need to. However, studying with other people is much better for conversation practice, so I still try to join a speaking session or work with a partner regularly.

[informal] [daily conversation] [level B1]

Note:

work at my own pace: học theo tốc độ của bản thân

personal weaknesses: những điểm yếu cá nhân

conversation practice: hoạt động luyện hội thoại

work with a partner: học hoặc luyện tập cùng một người

Question 20: What role does a teacher play in your English learning?

Ý tưởng: Nêu vai trò hướng dẫn, phản hồi và khẳng định trách nhiệm chủ động của người học.

In my view, a teacher gives learners direction and helps them notice problems that they may not recognise by themselves. A good teacher can explain difficult points, choose suitable activities and provide clear feedback. However, the teacher cannot practise for the learner, so students still need to review regularly and take responsibility for their own progress outside class.

[informal] [daily conversation] [level B1]

Note:

give learners direction: đưa ra định hướng cho người học

notice a problem: nhận ra một vấn đề

provide clear feedback: đưa ra phản hồi rõ ràng

take responsibility for something: chịu trách nhiệm về điều gì

Question 21: How do you use feedback to improve your English?

Ý tưởng: Mô tả cách ghi nhận phản hồi, chọn lỗi ưu tiên và kiểm tra lại sau khi luyện tập.

Well, when I receive feedback, I try not to correct everything at the same time. I write down the mistakes that happen repeatedly and choose one or two to focus on. Then I create a few new examples, practise them over several days and record or test myself again. This turns feedback into action instead of leaving it as a comment I quickly forget.

[informal] [extended conversation] [level B1]

Note:

receive feedback: nhận phản hồi

a repeated mistake: một lỗi lặp lại

focus on one problem: tập trung vào một vấn đề

turn feedback into action: biến phản hồi thành hành động cụ thể

Question 22: Are you afraid of making mistakes when speaking English?

Ý tưởng: Thừa nhận cảm giác sợ sai, thay đổi cách nhìn và nêu cách sửa lỗi sau cuộc hội thoại.

To be honest, I sometimes worry about making mistakes, especially when I speak to someone more fluent than me. However, I remind myself that communication is more important than producing perfect sentences. I focus on expressing my main idea first, then review one or two mistakes afterwards. The more often I speak, the less frightening those mistakes become.

[informal] [extended conversation] [level B1]

Note:

worry about making mistakes: lo lắng về việc mắc lỗi

express my main idea: truyền đạt ý chính

review a mistake afterwards: xem lại lỗi sau đó

become less frightening: trở nên bớt đáng sợ

Ngữ pháp: The more + mệnh đề, the more/less + mệnh đề diễn tả hai sự thay đổi có liên hệ với nhau.

Question 23: Why is fast English difficult to understand?

Ý tưởng: Giải thích hiện tượng nối âm, dạng âm yếu và lý do biết từ nhưng vẫn không nhận ra khi nghe.

In my experience, fast English is difficult because speakers do not pronounce every word separately and clearly. They link sounds, shorten common words and use weak forms, so a sentence may sound very different from its written version. It is not always that learners lack vocabulary; their ears may simply need more training to recognise familiar words inside a continuous stream of speech.

[informal] [extended conversation] [level B1]

Note:

pronounce every word separately: phát âm từng từ tách biệt

use weak forms: sử dụng dạng âm yếu

lack vocabulary: thiếu vốn từ

a continuous stream of speech: một dòng lời nói liên tục

Ngữ pháp: It is not always that A; B may… giúp bác bỏ một nguyên nhân đơn giản và đưa ra cách giải thích chính xác hơn.

Question 24: What do you do to speak English more fluently?

Ý tưởng: Nêu cách luyện theo cụm, giới hạn thời gian chuẩn bị và lặp lại cùng một câu trả lời.

From my experience, to become more fluent, I practise expressing ideas in complete phrases rather than building every sentence word by word. I choose a familiar question, give myself a short time to prepare and speak for one or two minutes. Then I repeat the same answer with fewer pauses and clearer connections. Repeating ideas in this way gradually makes useful language easier to retrieve.

[informal] [extended conversation] [level B1]

Note:

speak in complete phrases: nói bằng các cụm hoàn chỉnh

word by word: từng từ một

with fewer pauses: với ít khoảng ngập ngừng hơn

retrieve useful language: gọi ra và sử dụng ngôn ngữ hữu ích

Question 25: How do you build confidence when speaking English?

Ý tưởng: Nêu cách bắt đầu từ tình huống an toàn, chuẩn bị cụm từ và tăng dần độ khó.

For me, confidence grows through small successful experiences. I start with familiar topics and practise with a supportive friend or by recording myself, where the pressure is low. I also prepare a few useful opening phrases so that I do not freeze at the beginning. As I become more comfortable, I gradually try longer answers and less predictable conversations.

[informal] [extended conversation] [level B1]

Note:

a successful experience: một trải nghiệm thành công

a supportive friend: một người bạn biết hỗ trợ

freeze at the beginning: bị khựng lại ngay từ đầu

a less predictable conversation: một cuộc trò chuyện khó đoán trước hơn

Question 26: How do you use English outside the classroom?

Ý tưởng: Nêu các hoạt động đời thường giúp biến tiếng Anh thành một phần của cuộc sống.

Actually, I try to make English part of activities I already do. I watch short videos, change some device settings to English, write simple notes and follow creators who discuss topics I enjoy. I also use English when searching for information online. These small habits give me regular contact with the language without making every activity feel like a formal lesson.

[informal] [extended conversation] [level B1]

Note:

make English part of something: biến tiếng Anh thành một phần của hoạt động nào đó

device settings: phần cài đặt của thiết bị

search for information: tìm kiếm thông tin

regular contact with the language: sự tiếp xúc đều đặn với ngôn ngữ

Question 27: How can films and TV shows help you learn English?

Ý tưởng: Nêu lợi ích về ngữ cảnh, lời nói tự nhiên và cách xem chủ động thay vì chỉ giải trí.

Definitely, films and TV shows are useful because they present language together with facial expressions, actions and clear situations. This context makes new expressions easier to understand and remember. However, I learn much more when I watch actively: I choose a short scene, note two or three useful phrases, replay difficult lines and later try to use the phrases in my own examples.

[informal] [extended conversation] [level B1]

Note:

facial expressions: biểu cảm khuôn mặt

a clear situation: một tình huống rõ ràng

watch actively: xem một cách chủ động để học

replay a difficult line: phát lại một câu thoại khó

Question 28: Should language learners use subtitles?

Ý tưởng: Đưa ra câu trả lời có điều kiện, phân biệt phụ đề tiếng Anh và tiếng mẹ đẻ.

Yes, subtitles can be helpful if they are used with a clear purpose. English subtitles allow learners to connect the sounds they hear with the words on the screen, which is useful for fast or unclear speech. However, subtitles in the first language may draw attention away from English. I prefer listening once without subtitles before using them to check difficult parts.

[informal] [extended conversation] [level B1]

Note:

use subtitles with a purpose: dùng phụ đề với mục đích rõ ràng

connect sounds with words: kết nối âm thanh với từ ngữ

draw attention away from something: khiến sự chú ý rời khỏi điều gì

check a difficult part: kiểm tra một phần khó

Question 29: How do podcasts help you learn English?

Ý tưởng: Nêu ưu điểm của podcast, cách chọn độ dài phù hợp và hoạt động sau khi nghe.

Personally, I find podcasts helpful because they expose me to natural speech while allowing me to choose topics that match my interests. I usually select short episodes with a transcript so that the material does not feel overwhelming. After listening, I summarise the main point aloud and save a few useful expressions. This turns listening into both vocabulary and speaking practice.

[informal] [extended conversation] [level B1]

Note:

expose me to natural speech: giúp tôi tiếp xúc với lời nói tự nhiên

match my interests: phù hợp với sở thích của tôi

feel overwhelming: tạo cảm giác quá sức

summarise the main point: tóm tắt ý chính

Question 30: What is shadowing, and how do you use it?

Ý tưởng: Giải thích kỹ thuật shadowing, mô tả các bước và nêu kỹ năng được cải thiện.

Basically, shadowing means listening to a speaker and repeating the same words almost immediately while copying the pronunciation and rhythm. I use a very short clip, listen several times and make sure I understand it first. Then I shadow one sentence at a time before trying the whole passage. This technique helps me improve connected speech, timing and speaking confidence.

[informal] [extended conversation] [level B1]

Note:

repeat something immediately: lặp lại điều gì gần như ngay lập tức

copy the pronunciation and rhythm: bắt chước cách phát âm và nhịp điệu

one sentence at a time: lần lượt từng câu một

connected speech: lời nói có hiện tượng nối và biến đổi âm

Question 31: How can you learn to think in English?

Ý tưởng: Nêu cách bắt đầu bằng ý đơn giản, dùng từ đã biết và tránh dịch từng câu hoàn chỉnh.

In my opinion, thinking in English begins with very simple ideas rather than complex conversations. I name objects around me, describe what I am doing and plan small tasks using words I already know. If I cannot express something perfectly, I try to explain it in an easier way instead of translating a complete Vietnamese sentence. This gradually makes English responses more automatic.

[informal] [extended conversation] [level B1]

Note:

name objects around me: gọi tên các đồ vật xung quanh

plan a small task: lên kế hoạch cho một việc nhỏ

express something perfectly: diễn đạt điều gì một cách hoàn hảo

make responses automatic: biến phản hồi thành phản xạ tự động

Question 32: How do you balance listening, speaking, reading and writing?

Ý tưởng: Nêu cách lập kế hoạch, ưu tiên điểm yếu và kết hợp nhiều kỹ năng trong một hoạt động.

In practice, I try to give all four skills some attention during the week, although I spend more time on the ones I find difficult. I also combine skills whenever possible. For example, I may read a short article, listen to a video on the same topic, explain the main idea aloud and write a short response. This makes my study time more efficient.

[formal] [VSTEP speaking practice] [level B1-B2]

Note:

give a skill some attention: dành sự chú ý cho một kỹ năng

combine different skills: kết hợp các kỹ năng khác nhau

on the same topic: về cùng một chủ đề

make study time efficient: giúp thời gian học có hiệu quả

Question 33: How do you build a regular English study habit?

Ý tưởng: Nêu mục tiêu nhỏ, tín hiệu bắt đầu cố định và cách giảm yêu cầu vào ngày bận.

I believe a regular habit is easier to build when the starting point is small and specific. Instead of planning a two-hour lesson, I begin with fifteen or twenty minutes at the same time each day. I also connect English to an existing routine, such as studying after dinner. On busy days, I reduce the amount but still keep the habit alive.

[formal] [VSTEP speaking practice] [level B1-B2]

Note:

build a regular habit: xây dựng một thói quen đều đặn

a small and specific goal: một mục tiêu nhỏ và cụ thể

an existing routine: một hoạt động thường lệ đã có

keep a habit alive: duy trì để thói quen không bị gián đoạn

Question 34: How can a busy person find time to learn English?

Ý tưởng: Đề xuất tận dụng khoảng thời gian ngắn, chuẩn bị hoạt động sẵn và ưu tiên tính đều đặn.

In my view, a busy person does not always need a long, uninterrupted study session. They can use short periods during the day to review phrases, listen to a brief podcast or record a one-minute answer. It helps to prepare these activities in advance so that no time is wasted deciding what to do. Consistency is usually more important than the length of one lesson.

[formal] [VSTEP speaking practice] [level B1-B2]

Note:

an uninterrupted study session: một buổi học không bị gián đoạn

use short periods of time: tận dụng các khoảng thời gian ngắn

prepare something in advance: chuẩn bị điều gì từ trước

waste time deciding: lãng phí thời gian để quyết định

Question 35: What keeps you motivated to continue learning English?

Ý tưởng: Nêu mục tiêu cá nhân, cách chia nhỏ mục tiêu và cách ghi nhận tiến bộ thật.

Personally, what keeps me motivated is having a clear personal reason for learning English. I want to communicate confidently and gain access to information that matters to me. I divide this larger purpose into small weekly goals, such as finishing a podcast or learning phrases for one topic. I also keep old recordings, because hearing my progress gives me energy to continue.

[formal] [VSTEP speaking practice] [level B1-B2]

Note:

a clear personal reason: một lý do cá nhân rõ ràng

divide a goal into smaller goals: chia mục tiêu thành các mục tiêu nhỏ hơn

keep old recordings: lưu lại các bản ghi âm cũ

give me energy to continue: cho tôi động lực để tiếp tục

Question 36: What do you do when your English progress feels slow?

Ý tưởng: Thừa nhận giai đoạn chững lại, xem lại bằng chứng cũ và điều chỉnh phương pháp hoặc mục tiêu.

To be honest, when my progress feels slow, I try not to assume that my learning has stopped. I compare a recent recording or piece of writing with an older one to look for changes that are easy to miss day by day. If I still feel stuck, I reduce the goal, change the material or focus on one weakness. A small improvement can restore my motivation.

[formal] [VSTEP speaking practice] [level B1-B2]

Note:

progress feels slow: cảm thấy tiến bộ chậm

feel stuck: cảm thấy bị chững lại

focus on one weakness: tập trung vào một điểm yếu

restore my motivation: khôi phục động lực

Question 37: How do you measure your progress in English?

Ý tưởng: Nêu cách lưu sản phẩm theo thời gian và dùng khả năng thực tế thay vì chỉ nhìn điểm số.

Personally, I measure progress by keeping monthly samples of my speaking and writing and comparing them over time. I pay attention to whether I can speak with fewer pauses, understand more natural audio and use a wider range of expressions. Test scores can be useful, but I also value real-life evidence, such as following a video without subtitles or holding a longer conversation.

[formal] [VSTEP speaking practice] [level B1-B2]

Note:

keep monthly samples: lưu các sản phẩm mẫu hằng tháng

compare something over time: so sánh điều gì theo thời gian

a wider range of expressions: phạm vi cách diễn đạt rộng hơn

real-life evidence: bằng chứng từ khả năng sử dụng thực tế

Question 38: How do you set effective goals for learning English?

Ý tưởng: Giải thích vì sao mục tiêu cần cụ thể, có thể đo lường và gắn với một hành động thực tế.

In my view, an effective language goal should be specific enough to guide daily practice. Saying ‘I want to improve my English’ is too general, so I prefer goals such as giving a two-minute answer with fewer pauses or understanding the main idea of a short podcast. I set a deadline, choose suitable activities and review the result before planning the next goal.

[formal] [VSTEP speaking practice] [level B1-B2]

Note:

an effective language goal: một mục tiêu ngôn ngữ hiệu quả

guide daily practice: định hướng việc luyện tập hằng ngày

set a deadline: đặt thời hạn

review the result: xem lại kết quả

Question 39: How do you prepare for an English speaking test?

Ý tưởng: Nêu cách luyện theo chủ đề, giới hạn thời gian chuẩn bị và tập trung vào ý thay vì học thuộc.

In my case, to prepare for a speaking test, I practise common topics but avoid memorising complete answers. I create a small bank of personal examples and useful phrases that can be adapted to different questions. I also record timed responses so that I become familiar with thinking under pressure. Afterwards, I check the organisation, fluency and clarity of each answer rather than correcting every tiny error.

[formal] [VSTEP speaking practice] [level B1-B2]

Note:

memorise a complete answer: học thuộc toàn bộ câu trả lời

a bank of personal examples: một kho ví dụ cá nhân

a timed response: câu trả lời được giới hạn thời gian

think under pressure: suy nghĩ trong điều kiện áp lực

Question 40: How do you control your nerves during a speaking test?

Ý tưởng: Nêu cách chuẩn bị phần mở đầu, hít thở và xử lý khi mắc lỗi mà không dừng lại.

Personally, before a speaking test, I remind myself that the examiner is evaluating communication, not expecting a perfect performance. I take a slow breath and begin with a simple opening phrase to give myself time to organise the first idea. If I make a mistake, I correct it briefly when necessary and continue speaking instead of allowing one error to affect the whole answer.

[formal] [VSTEP speaking practice] [level B1-B2]

Note:

control my nerves: kiểm soát sự hồi hộp

a perfect performance: một phần thể hiện hoàn hảo

organise the first idea: sắp xếp ý đầu tiên

continue speaking: tiếp tục nói

Question 41: What do you do when you are asked an unexpected question in English?

Ý tưởng: Mô tả cách xin thời gian suy nghĩ, chọn quan điểm đơn giản và triển khai bằng lý do, ví dụ.

Well, when I receive an unexpected question, I first use a natural phrase such as ‘That’s an interesting question’ to gain a few seconds. I then choose the simplest clear position instead of searching for a perfect or highly original idea. Once I have a position, I give one main reason, add a personal example and finish with a short conclusion.

[formal] [IELTS/VSTEP speaking] [level B2]

Note:

an unexpected question: một câu hỏi bất ngờ

gain a few seconds: có thêm vài giây

take a clear position: đưa ra một quan điểm rõ ràng

add a personal example: thêm một ví dụ cá nhân

Question 42: How can learners use collocations to sound more natural?

Ý tưởng: Giải thích lợi ích của việc học theo cụm và nêu quy trình lưu, ôn, sử dụng collocation.

In my view, learners sound more natural when they use words in combinations that commonly occur together. Therefore, instead of learning the word ‘progress’ alone, I would save phrases such as ‘make progress’ and ‘track my progress’. I keep each collocation with an example, review it as one unit and use it in several speaking answers. This also reduces the time needed to build sentences.

[formal] [IELTS/VSTEP speaking] [level B2]

Note:

occur together: thường xuất hiện cùng nhau

save a phrase as one unit: lưu một cụm như một đơn vị hoàn chỉnh

make progress: tiến bộ

build a sentence: tạo thành một câu

Question 43: What do you do when you forget a word during a conversation?

Ý tưởng: Nêu cách diễn đạt vòng, dùng từ đơn giản hơn và hỏi người nghe khi thật sự cần thiết.

Well, if I forget a word, I try not to stop the entire conversation. I describe the object, action or idea using simpler language, or I give an example of what I mean. If the exact word is important, I may ask, ‘What do you call the thing that…?’ What matters is keeping the message moving rather than becoming silent because one word is missing.

[formal] [IELTS/VSTEP speaking] [level B2]

Note:

describe something in simpler language: mô tả điều gì bằng ngôn ngữ đơn giản hơn

give an example of what I mean: đưa ra ví dụ cho điều tôi muốn nói

the exact word: từ chính xác

keep the message moving: duy trì mạch truyền đạt

Ngữ pháp: What matters is + V-ing/noun phrase dùng để nhấn mạnh điều quan trọng nhất.

Question 44: Which is more important in speaking: fluency or accuracy?

Ý tưởng: Đưa ra quan điểm cân bằng và giải thích cách ưu tiên khác nhau giữa giao tiếp và luyện tập.

I believe fluency and accuracy are both important, but their priority depends on the activity. During a real-time conversation, fluency should usually come first because constant self-correction can interrupt the message. During focused practice, however, learners should pay closer attention to accuracy so that repeated mistakes do not become permanent habits. The two skills should be trained at different moments.

[formal] [IELTS/VSTEP speaking] [level B2]

Note:

real-time conversation: cuộc hội thoại diễn ra trực tiếp

constant self-correction: việc liên tục tự sửa lỗi

interrupt the message: làm gián đoạn điều đang truyền đạt

a permanent habit: một thói quen lâu dài khó thay đổi

Question 45: How important is accent when learning English?

Ý tưởng: Phân biệt giọng bản ngữ với phát âm dễ hiểu và xác định mục tiêu hợp lý.

In my opinion, having a native-like accent is far less important than being clear and easy to understand. Learners should focus first on sounds that change meaning, word stress, rhythm and intonation, because these features directly affect communication. An accent can also reflect a speaker’s identity. As long as listeners can understand the message without repeated effort, the accent is not a serious problem.

[formal] [IELTS/VSTEP speaking] [level B2]

Note:

a native-like accent: giọng nói gần giống người bản ngữ

word stress: trọng âm từ

affect communication: ảnh hưởng đến giao tiếp

without repeated effort: không cần liên tục cố gắng để hiểu

Question 46: Do learners need to practise with native speakers?

Ý tưởng: Phủ nhận quan điểm tuyệt đối, nêu lợi ích của nhiều đối tượng giao tiếp và tiêu chí quan trọng hơn.

Well, not necessarily. Native speakers can provide useful exposure to natural pronunciation and everyday expressions, but they are not the only valuable conversation partners. Skilled teachers and other learners can also offer clear feedback, patience and regular practice. Since English is used internationally, communicating with people who have different accents may actually be more realistic. The quality of interaction matters more than a speaker’s nationality.

[formal] [IELTS/VSTEP speaking] [level B2]

Note:

provide useful exposure: tạo cơ hội tiếp xúc hữu ích

a conversation partner: người cùng luyện hội thoại

different accents: những giọng nói khác nhau

the quality of interaction: chất lượng của sự tương tác

Question 47: How can AI help people learn English?

Ý tưởng: Nêu lợi ích cá nhân hóa và phản hồi, đồng thời chỉ ra cách sử dụng có kiểm soát.

In my view, AI can help learners generate level-appropriate examples, practise conversations and receive immediate explanations when a teacher is not available. It can also identify repeated patterns in writing or suggest alternative ways to express an idea. However, learners should verify important information and avoid accepting every correction without question. AI works best as a practice tool that supports, rather than replaces, independent thinking and human feedback.

[formal] [IELTS/VSTEP speaking] [level B2]

Note:

level-appropriate examples: ví dụ phù hợp với trình độ

receive immediate explanations: nhận giải thích ngay lập tức

verify important information: kiểm chứng thông tin quan trọng

independent thinking: tư duy độc lập

Question 48: Is online learning better than face-to-face learning for languages?

Ý tưởng: So sánh hai hình thức dựa trên tính linh hoạt, tương tác và khả năng tự quản lý.

Overall, online learning is more flexible and gives learners access to a wider range of teachers and materials. Face-to-face learning, on the other hand, often creates stronger interaction and makes it easier for some students to stay focused. I do not think one format is always better. The best choice depends on the learner’s schedule, goals, self-discipline and need for direct support.

[formal] [IELTS/VSTEP speaking] [level B2]

Note:

a wider range of teachers: nhiều lựa chọn giáo viên hơn

create stronger interaction: tạo ra sự tương tác mạnh hơn

stay focused: duy trì sự tập trung

the best choice depends on something: lựa chọn tốt nhất phụ thuộc vào điều gì

Question 49: Is learning another foreign language different from learning English?

Ý tưởng: So sánh kinh nghiệm học, nêu kỹ năng có thể chuyển giao và khó khăn do hai ngôn ngữ gây nhiễu.

Yes, definitely. Every language has a different sound system, grammar and way of organising meaning, so the learning experience is never exactly the same. However, strategies developed through English, such as using context, reviewing regularly and learning phrases, can be transferred to another language. The main challenge is keeping the languages separate and avoiding confusion when similar words or structures have different meanings.

[formal] [IELTS/VSTEP speaking] [level B2]

Note:

a sound system: hệ thống âm thanh của một ngôn ngữ

transfer a strategy: chuyển một chiến lược sang việc học ngôn ngữ khác

keep two languages separate: tách biệt hai ngôn ngữ

avoid confusion: tránh sự nhầm lẫn

Question 50: What are your long-term goals for learning languages?

Ý tưởng: Nêu mục tiêu sử dụng thực tế, kế hoạch duy trì và mong muốn học thêm ngôn ngữ khác.

Personally, in the long term, I want to use English confidently for study, professional communication and meaningful conversations with people from different backgrounds. I also hope to maintain my level by reading, listening and speaking regularly instead of treating English as a subject that ends after an exam. Once that routine is stable, I would like to learn another foreign language and apply the strategies that have worked for me.

[formal] [IELTS/VSTEP speaking] [level B2]

Note:

a long-term goal: một mục tiêu dài hạn

professional communication: giao tiếp trong công việc chuyên môn

maintain my level: duy trì trình độ

apply an effective strategy: áp dụng một chiến lược hiệu quả
